Regulatory Process

Q: What happens now that ATCO Electric has filed a Facility Application for the Eastern Alberta DC Transmission Line?

A: Following the filing of the application, the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) issued a notice of application on
April 11, 2011 to all parties who could potentially be impacted by the project. The AUC hosted two process meetings, in Hanna May 7, and Tofield May 20, for the purpose of establishing a schedule and process for the fair and effective consideration of the Eastern Alberta DC Transmission Line. After the information was reviewed, a process decision was issued by the AUC May 31, outlining the timing and process schedule for the project, including a public hearing date.  The public hearing for the Eastern Alberta DC Transmission Line has been scheduled to commence
January 16, 2012. Following the close of the proceeding, the AUC will have 90 days to issue their decision.  If approved, construction is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2012 with an in-service date of mid to late 2014.
